Teifi Cheese was established in 1982 by John and Patrice Savage-Onstwedder and Paula van Werkhoven. They moved to from Holland to Wales in 1981 and set up the cheese-making operation at their farm in Mid Wales.
They are true artisan cheesemakers, dedicated to the production of cheeses that are produced with unpasteurised milk and committed to retaining traditional cheese making principals, many of which are taken from their Dutch heritage, an influence which is also applied to some of the cheese making equipment that is used.
Over the past two decades Teifi Farmhouse has developed a wonderful range of cheeses with a reputation that spreads worldwide.

THE CHEESES |

The Teifi Farmhouse range of cheeses are all manufactured in the traditional, hand-made manner, using locally sourced milk. The recipes that are used have been developed and adapted to ensure consistency in each the varieties. Thanks to the richness of the soil and the traditional meadows on which the cows graze, the natural flavours are passed into the cheeses giving them their unique essence and aroma. |

The principal Teifi Farmhouse cheese is Teifi Original. Naturally flavoured and available either as a young fresh cheese with semi-hard smooth texture, or in a matured format where the cheese has been aged for up to 12 months, giving a deeper richer flavour whilst retaining a smooth slightly soft texture. |

Other varieties of Teifi include versions with added Garlic, Onion & Garlic, Laverbread (edible seaweed), Nettle, Cumin Seed, and Sweet Peppers. Teifi is also available in an Oak Smoked variety. |

Another of Teifi's award winning cheeses is Celtic Promise, a washed rind cheese with a slightly moist, orange-red rind. It has a pungent aroma and a creamy, rich yellow paste, which is soft with a flavour that us rich and mildly piquant, yet delicate. |

Saval has the same characteristics as Celtic Promise but is supplied in a larger format suitable for cutting on a delicatessen counter. |

THE AWARDS |
|

|
|
|
Teifi Farmhouse has received numerous awards over the years including the prestigious title of Supreme Champion at the British Cheese Awards twice (the only cheese to have ever done so) for their Celtic Promise.
Other successes include a Gold Award for Teifi Original at the 2006 British Cheese Awards and many prizes at the 2006 Royal Welsh Agricultural Show. |
